The Look of Carmen
As I mentioned above, Carmen tends to be goldtone jewelry. And most often you will find it in expansion bracelet form. Although I have seen some earrings, they tend to be few and far between.
Some of the loveliest Carmen (in my opinion) is the jewelry with a Victorian influence. But many of the designs revolve around heart designs.

Hobe Sterling Jewelry
Hobe sterling jewelry is pretty rare, as is most jewelry from the 1940s time frame. With the war, the normal jewelry metals were conscripted by the goverment. Therefore, the jewelry manufacturers had to "make do" with sterling silver.
Once the war was over, the pot and base metals were once again used by the costume jewelry manufactuers, and sterling went largely by the wayside. So in general, the use of sterling in costume jewelry indicates it was made in the 1940s time frame -- roughly 1943 through 1948.
One other way to identify if a terling piece is from the 1940s is that usually it does not have a lot of rhinestones. Instead of a plethora of smaller stones, a few larger ones were used. While this isn't cast in stone, rhinestones ceased to be imported from Europe so once again, jewelry manufactuers had to make do with what they had in stoock.

Clover Jewerly
